The Greater Manchester Police Federation take seriously the welfare of our members and their families.

On many occasions in the past we have all witnessed tragic circumstances whereby a member or their partner has lost their life, suffered a serious illness or injury or had their pay cut. All of these instances can prove disastrous, both emotionally and financially for the family.

In order to try to minimise the financial hardship of such circumstances we operate the Insurance Trust Fund scheme of which you are a member. Our strength as a group, rather than individuals, ensures we get the best possible rates available for a range of comprehensive benefits.

The purpose of this document is to outline what benefits are payable and to provide a brief explanation of what each benefit covers.

Please take time to read and familiarise yourself with the contents and then keep it in a safe place for future reference. The benefits are regularly reviewed by your Federation in order to ensure that they always meet the needs of the majority of officers. Please destroy all earlier scheme details.

All benefits are provided in accordance with the terms of the respective insurance policies, which are available for inspection by prior appointment at the Federation Office.

We would like to bring your attention to the following, which is a stipulation of the insurers:-

Please be aware that if you go on unpaid leave i.e. career breaks/maternity leave and do not make arrangements with the Federation office to set up payment of your LIAS subscriptions before you go on unpaid leave and miss a payment for one month or more, this will constitute termination of membership. You will not be allowed to restart your LIAS/LIAS Spouse subscriptions directly with Pay & Finance upon your return to GMP.

If you know you will be going on unpaid leave and wish to make arrangements to pay during that time, please ring Marian Askew to discuss on 0161 355 4400.

If you do not set up your payments but would like to continue membership of the LIAS upon your return to full pay, it will be necessary for you to contact the Federation office on 0161 355 4400 to request an application form to apply to re-join the scheme and your form will be sent to the insurers for consideration. If the insurers cannot accept you at normal rates i.e. £24.75 (£15.95 PoliceStaff Basic Scheme) or £6.95 your application(s) will be declined.
